My Real Life Wonky Cat

by wonkycat @ 2008-07-01 - 22:45:46

As you can see in the FAQ of the Wonky Cat shop, Wonky Cat was originally a stuffed toy I made for my friend's birthday, but I have my own real life wonky cat called Tabitha. She has half a tail (earning her the title 'Half-Manx Cat'), and an extremely superior attitude. That does not count the times when she will suddenly have a mad half hour and tear around the house, somehow navigating corners at 60 miles an hour. She has taken to drinking water more regularly now, but only in a bowl in my room, which means paws knocking at my bedroom door at midnight. She doesn't even look at me when she walks in, she just struts to the dish, laps at the water and then walks straight back out again without a backwards glance. As with most cats, she deals with embarrassment by acting like I'm the loser. As evidenced by the events of yesterday.

The moment of embarrassment - she walks slowly but definitely headfirst into my mirror.

This is Tabs standing at the door pretending that it didn't just happen.

Tabby's 'cat caught in headlights' look.

A rather arty picture of my cat.

Her next tactic is just to pretend I am not there.

catside
But she totally knows I'm still behind her.

And here, she definitely knows I'm there. (Strangely, as I type this, I heard Tabby's paws on the door and she is now drinking her water;) )

catdoor
I love how cats use their paws - it's always cute.

And oddly, here she is entering...the bathroom:.

I love "head first into a mirror". She does seem particularly good at ignoring you as well!

It's an art she has perfected over the last 16 years or so!

I just adore this cat - she is so reminiscent of one of the souls I had. I wonder what she'd do if there was no water in the bowl.

I see you've got your links up and running (I'm still a learner). I'm a bit like a feline, I ponder, I watch, wait and learn

Thanks Menhir, I'm glad you like her! She's a cranky old thing but I love her so much. I'll have to post a front on picture of her face when she's in a better mood because she is actually very pretty and quite young looking for her age. She has become more affectionate with age, but in weekly measurements followed by a fortnight of ignoring me! If the water dish was empty, she would just ensure that she is between my ankles every time I start walking!

I have indeed sorted out the links - if you need more help, just ask. ;)

Links, ask...oh I definitely will.

One of my cats used to put a paw out (it was a big paw too)and catch my ankle if she wanted to detain me for any reason. I discovered one of her big, really big, brother's did the same with a lot more impact. In fact, many of their habits were identical, apart from the weight behind them.

The adult daughter of the house was totally petrified one day when my stroking hand got ensnared between two front paws which were like clamps. I think she was on the verge of screaming for help. With my hand locked in, I turned as best I could to her, to reassure her I could handle it. She saw I could and did. The expression of relief on her face was remarkable. I let her in on the secret that I lived with her cat's sister and learned long ago how to respond to her antics which were no different to her brother's. :) (Smug)

:D I never heard of shared behavioural traits between sibling pets! I love the heroic, calm response to the cat attack!
Your cat putting her paw out to stop you reminds me of a neighbour's cat (who sadly had to put down recently) - when he wanted to get into the house, he would stand on the top front step, lean over onto the windowsill of her front room and knock on the window with his other paw. When he wanted to get out, he would run his paws repeatedly down the venetian blinds! And sometimes, he would reach up and pat her face to get her attention!
I also once had a kitten called Molly, and she would climb up my trouser leg, up the curtains, up the christmas tree, once even two feet up the wallpaper! When she was very tiny, she would be so happy to see us in the morning that she would give us temporary rashes on ours chins (one chin each!) from headbutting us so affectionately. Sadly, she ran away but she wasn't the smartest (though she was def. the cutest!) so it's very possible she just found another nice house and thought it was home!
I wonder how could anyone hate cats?

They can be a lot of fun - a cat has to like you and the household, not the other way round. A lot of people haven't learnt that.
